Team Leader for Data, Assessment, and Technology Integration
I've been a staff specialist for professional development at CA BOCES since March 2004. Among other things, my main focus is working with teachers and school districts through our BOCES Model Schools COSER. I also work with teachers and school districts trying to make sense of state assessment data and finding applications for the use of data for curriculum and instruction.
I was inspired this summer--somewhat out of peer pressure--to begin blogging on my blog Education Rambler. Unfortunately, I did not commit to making blogging a daily habit and the blog is now mostly used as a sample or jumping off point during professional development offerings. I find I do a lot of thinking about what I might say on the blog, but then don't do an awful lot of writing down what I've thought.
In addition to the blog, we've created a wiki at our BOCES specifically for our Model Schools COSER. The purpose of the wiki is to keep our component districts informed about course offerings and other events happening with this COSER. Another wiki represents the "Tech Connect 2.0" initiative we began this year as a collaboration with the Cattaraugus Allegany Teacher Resource Center. In return for an LCD projector (purchased by the Teacher Center), the teachers participate in a series of workshops designed to assist them in thinking about technology in terms of LoTI.
I am always encouraged by the level of honesty teachers seem to have about their own comfort levels with technology, while having a true willingness to up the ante and learn about things that can help students to learn.
